Abraham agrees to sacrifice his son because he has great faith in God. God has not failed him before so he knows to follow God’s commands. Sarah and Abraham could not have a child and were both in their old age. However, God granted Sarah and Abraham a child and they named him Isaac. Due to this situation, Abraham is fully devoted to God and will follow his every will even if it is to sacrifice his favorite son.

In reality, Isaac and Abraham do return to the servants at the end and God does provide a ram for sacrifice. However, Abraham does not know how the outcome will turn out. During the story he believes that he will sacrifice his son so he does lie or alter the truth to avoid the questions and concerns of him sacrificing his son. Abraham might have been hopeful that God would stop him from killing his son, but he did not have any evidence prior to the occurrence that God would intervene.

God’s intention is to see how faithful Abraham was to him. He was testing his faith by seeing if he would murder his favorite son that he loves dearly for an offering to God. Abraham does prove to be faithful in the end.

I think it is a twisted story. Yes, God is testing Abraham’s faith, but Abraham was very willing to sacrifice a human person let alone his son. I am a little concerned on Abraham’s morals considering he was fully willing to kill his son for God. Abraham does follow God’s command, but I do not believe it is something to be praised about. This instance however, foreshadows when God sacrifices his only son for the sins of the people.  This is seen as the greatest act of selflessness so I do not know what to consider than about Abraham and his son.
