Religion and theology are very similar to each other. However, theology mostly focuses on the study of God and faith. Theology is also closely aligned to Catholicism. Religion is set of beliefs and worships that align to a specific group and typically informs the group how to live and what to believe in.

There are many different religions I this world today and probably more to come. Religion guides a group and has different preachings. Many religions revolve around a god or multiple gods. They typically describe something that is greater than the human person and how to reach a person’s full potential whether it is reaching heaven or finding nirvana.

Certain religions are more prevalent in certain cultures. In the Eastern world, Buddhism and Hinduism are the main religions that are prominent there. However in the Western World the main religions are Christianity and Judaism and in the Middle East it is Islam. Based on where people live they are more likely to b a certain religion. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all stem from Abraham and some teachings are close, but mostly the genealogies are similar.

A religion defines a person’s morals. It gives values and virtues that are supposed to be held tightly for a certain religion. It shows how we should perceive people and how we should treat others. Religions also have services where people can worship or praise their god or gods. Each ritual has a specific set up and prayers that are necessary. Religions can also hold holy days. In Catholicism, people celebrate  Christmas for Jesus’ birth and Easter for Jesus’ resurrection. In Hinduism, they celebrate Diwali, or the festival of lights, over a period of days to recognize the Hindu New Year.

Religion is the basis of people’s morals and values. It gives people something to believe in and to hope for something bigger than themselves.
